Full Day Falconry Experience

Falconry UK's "one day introduction to falconry experience" offers a unique insight into the art of falconry. Throughout the day, emphasis is "hands on" and you will be given the chance to handle many different species of raptors. The birds used on the experience days are owls, hawks, buzzards and eagles.

The day begins with a tour of the centre where you will be introduced to the birds that you will be encountering on the experience. You will be shown different techniques for handling birds of prey safely which will be followed by a step-by-step guide to training a bird of prey.

The day includes a "Hawk Walk" where you and one of our falconers take a Harris Hawk out of the bird of prey centre and into the grounds of Sion Hill Hall and surrounding countryside. The hawk is then let off to follow along as you walk this allows you to see a bird of prey in a more natural setting. The day ends with our Eagle Experience which gives you the chance to handle and fly some of our eagles here at the centre.

The day begins at 10.30am and finishes at approximately 4.30pm. A light lunch and refreshment breaks are included and the Falconry staff will be on hand to ensure you have an enjoyable and special day at the centre.

Age restriction applies from 16 years upwards.

Half Day Falconry Experience

Your day begins at 10.30am and finishes in time for the 1.30pm display which you are welcome to stay and watch. The experience starts with a brief introduction to the birds at the centre, and then you start with the practical hands on side of falconry where you under instruction from one of our falconers fly a selection of birds of prey. Following a short refreshment break you will be shown the falconers knot, handling the birds, and how to control them on the glove. You will also be shown the various equipment used in falconry. To finish off your experience you will fly one of our Harris Hawks for an hour around the grounds of the hall and put into practice what you have learnt during the experience.

Age restriction applies from 13 years upwards.

Owl experience

Why not treat someone to a full hands on Owl Experience, the experience starts at 10.30 when you meet, handle and fly a selection of our different owls that we have at the centre. Our Falconry staff will be on hand to ensure you have an enjoyable and special experience. A break for refreshments is included. The experience finishes in time for the 1.30pm display which you are welcome to stay and watch, you can then tour the centre at you leisure.

Children's Half Day Experience

Similar to a half day experience with plenty of handling and flying of different birds of prey and a mini Hawk Walk ( this experience includes one adult discounted admission to the centre not spectator. )At the conclusion of the course you are free to stay and enjoy the later flying displays and tour the centre at you leisure.

Suitable for children aged 8yrs - 13yrs.

Hawk Walk Gift Voucher

We can give you the experience of a life time when for an hour you can accompany one of our falconers and enjoy for yourself the thrill and excitement of flying a Harris Hawk in the glorious countryside around Sion Hill Hall. Admittance for one person into the centre is also included within this price. On your return to the centre you are free to stay and enjoy the later flying displays and tour the centre at you leisure.

Full Day Falconry Experience Spectator (only available if accompanying an Experience Day member)

The day begins at 10.30am and finishes at approximately 4.30pm. A light lunch is provided and the Falconry staff will be on hand to ensure you have an enjoyable and special day at the centre. This voucher will give you full access to the centre and the experience day members which will enable you to share this special experience and also give you the opportunity to take those dramatic photographs of the experience members flying our birds.

Half Day Falconry / Owl Experience Spectator (only available if accompanying a experience day member)

The day begins at 10.30am and finishes at approximately 1.30pm. This voucher will give you full access to the centre and the experience day members which will enable you to share this special experience and also give you the opportunity to take those dramatic photographs of the experience day members flying our birds. At the conclusion of the course you are free to stay and enjoy the later flying displays and tour the centre at you leisure. The Falconry staff will be on hand to ensure you have an enjoyable and special day at the centre.

This voucher allows you to accompany the hawk walk. but does not include admittance to the centre.
